The year 1945 is a historically significant year, which we remember in connection with the end of World War II. However, eighty years have also passed since the birth of the new Jawa motorcycle, spontaneously called Pérák, whose creator was the designer Joseph Joseph. The new Jawa model ambitiously stepped out into the world at the Paris exhibition in September of that year. A few months later, his son Josef also stepped out into life, who did not achieve similar fame, but did not deny the features of his "creator".
One of the men responsible for founding BMW and the company's first CEO from 1922 to 1942. Bayerische Motor Werke would probably not have been created without the contributions of gentlemen such as Karl Rapp, Gustav Otto, Max Fritz or Camillo Castiglioni, but Franz Josef Popp was the driving force behind the events that led to the emergence of BMW as a manufacturer of cutting-edge aircraft engines and motor vehicles.
Marius Berliet was one of the first captains of French industry. His name appeared on millions of radiator grilles of cars and trucks. He was a pioneer, a skilled mechanic and an extremely dynamic businessman. His empire almost collapsed due to accusations of collaboration with the Germans and he did not live to see his rehabilitation.
From the beginning of motorcycle history in the Czech lands, the Orion motorcycle factory and foundry in Slaný was successfully involved. It was never the largest producer and Orion motorcycles were never technically revolutionary. In the first period of production at the beginning of the 20th century, the company, owned by Vilém Michl, offered belt machines. However, their assembly was terminated at the beginning of the Great War. The company returned to motorcycles in the following decade, when it caught the short Czechoslovak motorcycle boom. First, it offered customers two-stroke, then four-stroke machines. All models were solid, durable, reliable and conservative. At the turn of the 1920s and 1930s, the basic four-stroke motorcycle of Michl's factory was Orion F 58, a cumbersome machine in the displacement category up to 500 cm3 with side valve timing.
Skoda Favorit with front-wheel drive, it started a new stage in the history of its brand in 1987, and ambitious plans included the production of a diverse range of derivative models. In the whirlwind of time, this did not happen, but interesting variations on the Favorit and Forman theme deserve to be remembered.
